Announcing TanglePod

I am very excited to announce our new podcast is on the air!  TanglePod: Conversations on Creativity started as a common interest between myself and Juliette from ArtsAmuse.  We both love sharing the benefits of regular creativity through our classes, and now through our podcast!

We found a common bond teaching and sharing the unseen benefits of Zentangle, and are constantly brainstorming how to share the peace and relaxation we get from regular creative practice.  We think that regular practice is more important than comparing results, and the real beauty of art and craft lays within the mind and heart of the artist.

Our podcast isn’t like taking a class, it is more like tea and tangle talk with a friend. We venture off topic sometimes, but our goal is to share  ideas to help you enhance the creativity, focus and relaxation in your life.

Please join us by subscribing to the Tanglepod podcast here: www.tanglepod.com.

Happy Tangling!

Creativity, and Kindness to yourself

As the holidays are wrapping up – and you are looking ahead to the New Year, I hope that your plans include time to help rejuvenate yourself with creativity, kindness and love.

If we all share a bit of kindness with ourselves, and the people around us, it may have a butterfly effect of positive energy.  Lets love ourselves a little more instead of listening to the negative voices, and our love is bound to reflect on others. If we all spend a little time being creative, instead of wishing we could do so – imagine how beautiful things could be.

As you are setting goals and making resolutions, don’t forget creativity, focus, and relaxation as part of your healthy well being.  Make a coffee date with yourself to tangle, sketch, journal or try found poetry.   Make a plan with yourself to put your phone down and pick up a book, or really look out your window to your surroundings.  Spend time coloring with your kids (or friends!), or set a creative date with a buddy to learn something new.

Wishing you a New Year filled with Creativity, Kindness and Love.

Kellie

Don’t forget to breathe

Breathe. Sit up straight, put your hand on your belly and feel your lungs fill and your tummy poof out with air.  Then release it slowly.

Many of us are in a habit of breathing from our chest and rib cage, that is the breath of fight or flight, stress, running away from your predators. Today’s predator looks more like a full calendar and stuffed inbox, but we breathe like we are anxious a lot of the time.

Deep full breaths take but a few seconds to fill us up, and allow us to exhale some of the nervous energy we carry. It can be done anywhere, sitting or standing or waiting at a traffic light.

After a few practices you might even be able to do it without your hand on your belly, funny to think about – but it is a skill many of us have lost.  Try it now and see how you are doing sit up straight, feel your lungs fill and your tummy poof out with air.  Then release it slowly.

Day 9 of the 3z’s

Yesterday I was busy giving an introductory class, so am a bit late getting my day 9 tile complete. It was actually really lovely to go back to my foundation tangles in the introductory lesson, and wonderful to share the morning with some very inspiring people!

After a late night, and early morning – I squeezed in a bit of tangle time, and I guess I was feeling like I need some solid organization in my day because this is the string that came out of my pencil:

My little golden tipples were not intimidated however, and managed to leak all over the place! Added to the tangle line up today is Auraknot.  I am very glad that the oozing tipple left me two places to revisit Auraknot, because I got very confused on the first one, though after shading and reflection I am calling it a charming variation.

The other tangles in this tile are tripoli, diva dance, shattuck, marasu, molygon, knightsbridge, and poke leaf.  I did enjoy this rendition of diva dance. You’ll notice the little moons on the line only occur right before the corner, which ended up giving it a very fun feeling. It is different every time I draw it!
